Vivid - Sydney 2016
Im a huge vivid fad. The event has grown from lighting up the opera house to lighting up the whole city. Its actually out of hand with huge crowds. Still an amazing collection of creative work.
The Beach, Thailand 2010
Bangkok's temples are magnificent, Chang Mai's old city is great. But you have to go to Phi Phi island to see the best of Thailand. Even though I am an Australian and have seen hundreds of beautiful beaches the beach at Phi Phi Lai is the most beautiful Ive seen. It's the definition of tropical.
Lost in New Zealand Jan 2004
Already tired from the previous days walk it was tempting just to follow the path to the next campground. However the lure of the Cascade Saddle was irresistable. Considering the only reason I was not there was that park ranger said there was too much snow coming up from Wanaka. Here was my chance to take a detour and maybe get a glimce of Mt. Aspiring. It took 5 hours of solitary walking to reach the saddle. The clouds blocked any view of Mt. Aspiring. I was not dissapointed however after reaching the top a kea bird came and sat right next to me. So large so colourful. An alpine parrot with no fear of humans in an otherwise bleak landscape. Another 5 hours later I was back in my sleeping bag tired but satisfied.
Walking on Hawiian Lava Jan 2005
Its lava and you can get as close as you want. How close can you get...? Till the heat drives you back. Drive to the end of the chain of craters road on the big island. Its the end of the road because the lava has covered it. Then walk for 2 hours until you reach the flowing lava on its way to the sea. Its better at night. I'd never seen anything like it. Not a huge flow but just the fact that it exists was enough to blow me away.
